Lately, I’ve been thinking about the link between art/music and obsession.  In particular, I find myself collecting more music than I can digest.  I have this idea that one day I’ll get around to most of it and fully appreciate it then.  Or maybe I’ll really appreciate some of it now, but not all of it.  And there’s a part of me that feels good about saving something great for later.  There’s another part of me that really likes collecting rare things.  I hate to admit it, but there’s a little part of me that really enjoys consuming/purchasing music.  I can’t really help it sometimes.  Anyway, anybody else collect records or art for the sake of collecting?  Or, does anyone do the opposite?  What is your general attitude about art or music?  Do you feel as though you have to exercise some form of consumption to fully savor/remember/experience a particular song/painting/film?

My latest film viewing is Jeanne Dielman, 23 Quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles (1975), a new Criterion release.  I’m only 15 minutes into it, but I had to take a break.  There’s no dialogue yet, which I enjoy.  However, I’m exhausted just watching the main character go about her daily chores of cleaning bathrooms.  She rarely stops cleaning.  I have to finish it because I hear the climax of the movie is excellent.  Any one else have a really good recent movie recommendation?
